Most of our hatchets and tomahawks are hand made by Native American artists from various tribes right here in the American Southwest. Most are ceremonial artifacts that would never have been used in daily life. Ceremonial hatchets and tomahawks were used in meetings between tribes. If the meetings went well the hatchet or tomahawk was then literally buried during a ceremony to show the friendship of the two tribes. This is the origin of the phrase "bury the hatchet" meaning to renew a friendship. Each artifact is decorated individually with feathers, beads, and leather.
